At least two recent reports, by Ernst & Young and McKinsey & Company., predict a promising 2012 for M&A, still a significant growth strategy despite the doldrums of the last few years. EY ‘s Transaction Advisory Services report, released in December, predicts “ a sizable uptick in transactions over the next 12 months”, while McKinsey’s Global Survey of finance and other senior executives, also published in December, indicates that nearly half of respondents expect their companies to explore more deals in the next 12 months than in 2011.
Meanwhile, a new Hildebrandt Institute blog post affirms that 2011 was an active year for law firm mergers (2011 saw a 67% increase over 2010 for mergers involving U.S. firms) and predicts that 2012 will be active as well. So good news for M&A lawyers all round.
